GREEN Flag : The new teachers (Melinda, Mei Jun, Lee Kai) were able to engage the pupils in their lesson.
RED Flag: 221 was giving problems to the teachers again..... 11.15am - 11.30am: Kitchen 11.30 - 12.00am: 221 did not come to the class together. 3 girls were shouting while waiting waiting for their turn to enter. The whole was not cooperative with the teacher. At 11.50am, they were still outside the classrm.
Any other observation:
Classrm C3-05 lights and fans were on since 11.30 am. I switched off @11.50am when I came back again witnessing no one was at the classrm. Have checked with Mr. Boon (His homeroom) and realised that only 102 had used this room during PAL.
Weida from class 322 was loitering along the corridor during elective module period. He was reluctant to join the rest in the libarary who did not go for the field trip.
GREEN FLAGS: . All corridors are very clean. . Teachers are seen conducting the circles during lesson for class 101. Students are very engaged.
RED FLAGS: . Rubbish can be seen at the latch of the windows of Blk C. Can be unsightly if seen from the flats. . Door of boy's toilet at Blk C was damaged.

Red - class 2nt not focussed in class. HaikAl outside for rude behaviour. Rp-ed him to approach mr chan after the lesson to apologize. 4 students were late for class.

GREEN flags - Most classes were engaged in class, inclusive of Comp Lab lesson. - Mr. Zhang was following the PE guidelines closely when he conducted his PE lesson with 411 (not more than 15 mins exposed under the sun at one go) - Class 314 was cooperative when instructed to sit patiently for their teacher outside the classroom.
2. RED flags - 11.30 am changeover was quite messy along the corridor at Blk C & D. A substantial number of classes did not move as a class. - 6 boys & 1 girl were 15 late for Farhani's lesson. Reason: Extended toilet break! - 221 was not cooperative with the teachers in class. Reprimanded them. Took a disruptive boy, Gary Khoo, out to send a clear signal to the class. Guided him to complete his worksheet before sending him back to class. Realised that he was actually a smart boy (based on NT standard).
3. Any other observations. -Substantial number of pupils wearing PE attire on non-PE days. Common reason: CCA later, only 1 set of uniform.
-Substantial number of pupils carrying the bottled drink purchased from the cantten to classes. I would like to hear SMC's stand regarding this.
Green flag: classes are mostly engaged. 321 is well engaged in Tengku's lesson which uses videos to capture their attention.
Red flag: 2 students were caught to have gone to the toilet without teacher's permissions. Teachers must be vigilant about students who comes late for class so that a clear MSG is sent to all student that this behaviour will not be tolerated.
Red flag: Mrs Afrose needed help in managing 2NT class. A boy had his legs on the table. I entered the class to assist and reinforced the school value 'Respect our core'.
Green Flag: School cleaners were seen drying the main corridors of outside of canteen and blk C.
School compound were generally clean and all classes were in order.
Red Flag: Water ponding in front of container and passage way between technical blk and main blk. This caused a lot on inconvenience to students. Most of them got their shoes totally wet while trying to walk across the passage way.
Green Flag Classes in D-block / G-block were generally engaged. Students in C-block moved quickly to their classes and 401 was seen waiting quietly outside Qiuyan's class (B-block) for relief teacher to take them.
Tengku was observed using Circle Time during class. Li Ping had students engaged through group work.
Red Flag 2N MTL (ML) students were very active and one Zul from 213 was seen pushing and kicking his friends. I had to take him out for RP. No remorse yet seen. To monitor the boy.
Others Recess was calm in canteen saved for the noise level. Queues were orderly but dirty dishes not brought back to receptacles by all.

3. Any other observations. - A number of classrooms (C3-01, C3-04, C3-05, D4-02) were not locked after use. - D4-01's original projector was still under repair after 2 weeks!

Chased 3 Sec 2NA girls out of G-block toilet. One claims its recess and took her time preening claiming its lower sec at that time. I followed them and they actually had MTL lesson with Mdm Siti Mariam. I clarified procedure of going to toilet with girls in front of Mdm Siti and warned them not to go toilet prior to seeking permission from subject teacher.
Stopped Ju-ey from 213 in C-block for short skirt and multiple earholes plus nose stick. Reminded her school rules & expectations. Child was not receptive & walked off in a huff.
Many Sec 2 girls are seen not conforming to school rules with regards to attire.
11.00am General Cleanliness and students leaving the canteen before the bell. Students were engaged in most classes. Lessons in the library.
Red Flags Two classes were waiting for their teachers and it was already 15 mins after the bell. One of the teachers did not have a class before this period.

Small pockets of students still took their time to walk to their classroom aftr recess even after the whistle was blown by Eric and the bell has rang.
Some of the girls' skirts are rather short. Stopped some of the students to unfold their skirts while waiting for their subject teachers.
Suggestion: Subject teachers to be more vigilant to attire especially for girls (particularly for short skirts and unkept hair). Subject teachers to ensure students are properly attired before they enter the classroom.
Green Flag: Classes were engaged, most students are attentive to teachers' lesson. MT teachers' use of videos generates much interest amongst students.
Red Flag: Some classrooms (B1-02 and B1-01) have less than 40 sets of tables and chair. Can be a problem since we have classes that have 43 students this year.
GREEN FLAGS: - Most students settle down very quickly and lesson started immediately. - Students who were late, were seen rushing to class. - Cleaners started cleaning the corridors and toilets
RED FLAGS - Boys toilets on level 2 and 3 between blk C & D smell of strong cigarette smoke - The window panes along the corridors are very dusty. Students wrote words and draw graffti over the dust. Very unsightly. (Can we get the cleaners to clean these window panes once or twice a week?) - Some of the A4 class label holders are badly damaged. Need to replace ie. C3-05, etc
Other Observations: - Did informal class observation on 113 (Maths) - The staff toilet beside the conference room need to be clean twice a day as it is heavily use by male and female staff.
Generally the classes/students were focussed and quiet.
Just to note that the boys toilets on level 2 and 3 between library and block D have no doors for the cubicles. Is this intentional? If not, may want to have new ones fixed up.
RED Flag Daryl Fong and Odelia of 511 were found on the top floor blk c (near the access to the roof). Both claimed they have no POA. I have informed them that they are to either stay in the class or be in the library to do self study.
Some girls from 113 were abot 15 minutes late for IH class of Yan Hui. They had PE before the IH lessons.
Red Flag As usual, the canteen is still a mess after recess. Students taking their time to leave the canteen for their lesson. No whistle on that day. Litters were seen along corridor of Blk F.
GREEN flags Students were generally engaged. Vicky was slowly signs of controlling class 221 during her Mathematics lessons after 3 weeks of parting Nava's mentorship.
No cigarette butts was found at level 2 & 3 boys' toilet.
2. RED flags I second Annie's observation in the canteen. I needed to pester a number of them to return utensils and report to class after the bell had rung.
Class 212 was 15 minutes late for Manisah's lesson at the container.
3. Any other observations. As the PE department is gearing up for the preparation of Sports Day, Cross Country & NAPFA Test, classes which have PE immediately after recess have started showing physiological signs of discomfort during their lessons although the teachers have constantly remind them not to consume too much during recess.

1 cigarette butt each was found at level 2 & 3 toilet (near block C) respectively. Smell was still strong when I entered the toilets- most likely the upper sec pupils.
GREEN FLAG Noise level was maintained at an acceptable level. No students found in boys toilet (blk C).
Ms Noorhudah made 4 students seated outside her Science (414) class for being late. Students understood reasons for being punished. They qualified that they have made slight progress with regard to punctuality to class from recess. Students were advised that they have not reasons for being late especially from recess. They acknowledged and will be punctual the next time.
RED FLAG Richard (113) found sitting outside C1-06 at 11.15, who is exempted from MTL. He was waiting for his next lesson at 11.30am and went to the Library for only a short while. He was advised to be in the library and can only leave when the bell rang.
GREEN FLAGS - Teachers were actively teaching students in class. Students in all classes were engaged even though today is the last day of term 1.
RED FLAGS - Pen and pencil graffitti on external wall of class D1-02 and staircase C1 at the fourth level. - Light switches of toilets level 4 between blk C and D were ON even though toilets were locked and not in use. Possible cause of energy wastage. - Need to remove the Chinese New Year decorations in classrooms and school compound. - Some competition posters at canteen were really out of date...i.e competition date 2009. Need to remove.
RED FLAG - Attended to theft case in class 221 during English class. Reported by Mei Chuen. Case was referred to Ryan. - Caught 4 students from 221 who skipped Social Studies class. Student claimed that their classroom has changed. Brought students to the teacher. Students were 30 minutes late from class. - Boys toilet between Blk C and D, 2nd level smell of smoke from cigarette

2. RED flags - Quite a number of watermelon skins and plastics bags were left even outside the canteen. - Perhaps we will distribute the fruits without the plastic wrapper to reduce the possibility of fruits being consumed outside the canteen.
3. Any other observations. - Not too sure it is the norm among students, they tended to go overboard celebrating classmate's/friend's birthday by playing with water and flour. A poor girl from 221 was badly drenched and full of flour. Maths lesson was suspended and the whole class was reprimanded by DM/OM.
Some other students suffered the same treatment by schoolmates but they were mostly conducted after school. If there is a need, we should perhaps share the proper way to celebrate one's birthday.
- A water melon skin was thrown from the top of Block 'C' to the eco-pond and a worker was victimised, hours after Mdm Shanti shared with the sch 'the values of doing the right things when no one is watching'. I will share with the Sec 1-3 during the morning assembly tomorrow (done).

-Mdm Khor managed to keep the students who dropped MT to stay in her class to do work. I wonder why some other classes are not doing it, notably class 402 and 413 students. I personally witnessed them playing a fool rather than pro-actively spending quality time doing homework.

Green flags: 1. Most students were focused and moved purposefully to their venues.
2. Noted that quite a number of homeroom doors were left open. It may be a sign that teachers are feeling more confident in the students' behaviour i.e. that they won't cause mischief within. We could work towards SJC's concept of open homerooms. Teachers must first do up their homrooms.
3. Joanne took 101 out of classroom and had Circle Time at the foyer. Her voice was clear in the foyer and class was attentive and quiet.
Red flags: 1. Litter found in G-block: brown paper wrappers with chilli, empty oily clear plastic bags.
2. A student knocked over a painted bin on 1st floor (I saw from 4th floor) but did not bother to pick it up. There was a stream of students who worked past - likely a whole class - but they too did not pick it up.
MOn 12 July 9am Green Flag: Most students were engaged in class while 3 students were at the level 3 study corner as they did not have mother tongue classes. Red Flag: Some litter on the central staircase between blocks E & F.
Green Flag: - NT students were engaged during Mei Chuen's ART lesson. - MTL teacher, Mdm Zainah using youtube videos to teach Malay. Students were engaged.
Red Flag: - Most of the homerooms were not locked when there were no lessons. There are some expensive items in the homerooms such as visualisor and other teaching resources. - Male toilet 3rd floor between Blk C and D. Many many vulgarities written on back door of male toilet. - Students caught loitering. They were lost about whether they have hall assembly at 1pm. Can we place announcement of assembly on student broadcast every week?

Red Flag: - A big group of about 8-10 Sec 3 students were seen gathering (standing and chit-chatting) near the Block D staircase outside D2-01. When questioned, they quickly move and they know they were late for class.
Green Flags Most classes were engaged in class - good that they were doing group work / discussion. 2 classes were waiting outside the classrooms after recess to go into class. Students greeted me on the corridor.
Red Flags The level 3 Boys toilet above the library was smelling of smoke but no one was inside.

2. RED flags Saw a few class 422 Malay boys walked away hastily after witnessing me approaching the level 2 ophir block male toilet ard 1230pm. Witnessed the toilet filled with smoke and 2 cig butts were found at one of the cubicles.
I am getting very annoyed for the fact that these recalcitrants are currently challenging the school's authority for smoking in between lessons. Not only at the toilets, the 2 side corridors of the MPH (together with Sharen, we caught Kenny last week, Alif and one of the triplets from 314 2 weeks ago), the back stage of the hall (the floorball goalposts' net were damaged as they were melted by flame) and the area between the fitness corner to the container are common places we caught students smoking.
I wonder what is the agreed course of action we are carrying out to curb this challenge together.

Half of class 111 were not engaged in English lesson conducted by the trainee teacher. Her CT, Mr. Zhang was on medical leave. I shared some classroom management tips which she might want to try in future. However she did follow up with a couple of boys at the end of the day.
5 boys from 314 were standing outside their SS classroom. Their teacher did follow up with them at the end of the lesson.
Red flags 1. 4E5NA students who dropped subjects not meaningfully engaged in Library. No namelist for Rama to verify their claim on dropping subjects. Eve to follow up
2. Seating arrangements still along traditional straights lines / individual seating. Does not facilitate collaborative learning with the exception of a few classes in C & D block.
Green flags: 1. Lessons are mostly quiet and students seemed to be engaged.
2. Environment was generally clean wih the exception of posters falling out along corridors of D block. Posters we peeled off their reinforcements. Many posters missing. Will propose for murals to be painted instead of putting up posters on department corridors. Possibility of collaborative partneship with the art schools for mural painting? (Melinda's suggestion)
Other observations: 1. Teaching strategies employed are frontal. Mostly teacher talk.

1. Green flag s): Most homeroom doors are open with no sign of vandalism (as previously assumed). However, cleanliness can be improved for all homerooms in general.
2. Red flag: a) Some classes are waiting outside of homerooms for more than 10min past the bell. Teachers are not punctual for classes (F3 / D3). b) 301 students were being sent out of SS class for being disruptive.

1. Green flag: Visited Mei's homeroom. She has boxes of classified items for teaching of art through observation. She believes in using authentic, tangible sources to appeal to the kineasthetic learners she has. It has been successful for her to use these items for drawing. Homeroom is conducive to creativity and learning of art.
2. Red flag: General homeroom upkeep is not up to standard at all. Lots oflitter ie. plasic bottles, chewing gum (!!), used tissue paper, broken pencils and used correction tapes on floor. Due to homeroom sharing, users of others' homerooms do not have ownership and hence, is not responsible about the homeroom upkeep.
3. Others: Teaching is stil frontal for most lessons with stdents sitting in single rows and teacher lecturing most times. SOme syllabus "B" students within CL teacher class is restless and has ear phones plugged in while teacher is teaching without any book and fidgeting during lesson.

1. Green flag: Most classes are engaged and attentive. Sec 3 classes observed in C block were on task and teachers observed were clear.
2. Red flag: Sec 4E students in library were not on task (except 2 Pure Science students who did not offer C & T - Wey Yi & Kah Hui of 402). Students who drop subjects are still reporting to the Library despite reminders during assembly about reporting to alternative venues. An A3 timetable is put up in front of staffroom glass door. A timetable will also be given to Rama to remind students to report to designated venues.
Red flag: 101 was found sitting outside Joanne's homeroom. The students said that she would be 15 mins late due to invigilation. Today Denise also had the same problem. Some invigilation issues with the timetable of some teachers. Maybe should look into this before problem escalates.
Monday 20th Sept Red Flags - 6 322 students were sent out of class for being noisy. They were sitting on the corridor. - Staircase C1 at block C between levels 3 & 4 has some grafitti on the wall

Small pockets of students still took their time to walk to their classroom aftr recess even after the whistle was blown by Eric and the bell has rang.
Some of the girls' skirts are rather short. Stopped some of the students to unfold their skirts while waiting for their subject teachers.
Suggestion:
Subject teachers to be more vigilant to attire especially for girls (particularly for short skirts and unkept hair). Subject teachers to ensure students are properly attired before they enter the classroom.

Some classrooms (B1-02 and B1-01) have less than 40 sets of tables and chair. Can be a problem since we have classes that have 43 students this year.

- Boys toilets on level 2 and 3 between blk C & D smell of strong cigarette smoke
- The window panes along the corridors are very dusty. Students wrote words and draw graffti over the dust. Very unsightly. (Can we get the cleaners to clean these window panes once or twice a week?)
- Some of the A4 class label holders are badly damaged. Need to replace ie. C3-05, etc
Other Observations:
- Did informal class observation on 113 (Maths)
- The staff toilet beside the conference room need to be clean twice a day as it is heavily use by male and female staff.

Generally the classes/students were focussed and quiet.
Just to note that the boys toilets on level 2 and 3 between library and block D have no doors for the cubicles. Is this intentional? If not, may want to have new ones fixed up.

Daryl Fong and Odelia of 511 were found on the top floor blk c (near the access to the roof). Both claimed they have no POA. I have informed them that they are to either stay in the class or be in the library to do self study.
Some girls from 113 were abot 15 minutes late for IH class of Yan Hui. They had PE before the IH lessons.

Students were generally engaged. Vicky was slowly signs of controlling class 221 during her Mathematics lessons after 3 weeks of parting Nava's mentorship.
No cigarette butts was found at level 2 & 3 boys' toilet.

I second Annie's observation in the canteen. I needed to pester a number of them to return utensils and report to class after the bell had rung.
Class 212 was 15 minutes late for Manisah's lesson at the container.
3. Any other observations.
As the PE department is gearing up for the preparation of Sports Day, Cross Country & NAPFA Test, classes which have PE immediately after recess have started showing physiological signs of discomfort during their lessons although the teachers have constantly remind them not to consume too much during recess.

Noise level was maintained at an acceptable level. No students found in boys toilet (blk C).
Ms Noorhudah made 4 students seated outside her Science (414) class for being late. Students understood reasons for being punished. They qualified that they have made slight progress with regard to punctuality to class from recess. Students were advised that they have not reasons for being late especially from recess. They acknowledged and will be punctual the next time.
RED FLAG
Richard (113) found sitting outside C1-06 at 11.15, who is exempted from MTL. He was waiting for his next lesson at 11.30am and went to the Library for only a short while. He was advised to be in the library and can only leave when the bell rang.

- Teachers were actively teaching students in class. Students in all classes were engaged even though today is the last day of term 1.
RED FLAGS
- Pen and pencil graffitti on external wall of class D1-02 and staircase C1 at the fourth level.
- Light switches of toilets level 4 between blk C and D were ON even though toilets were locked and not in use. Possible cause of energy wastage.
- Need to remove the Chinese New Year decorations in classrooms and school compound.
- Some competition posters at canteen were really out of date...i.e competition date 2009. Need to remove.

- Attended to theft case in class 221 during English class. Reported by Mei Chuen. Case was referred to Ryan.
- Caught 4 students from 221 who skipped Social Studies class. Student claimed that their classroom has changed. Brought students to the teacher. Students were 30 minutes late from class.

- Most of the classes were engaged in lesson.
2. RED flags
- Quite a number of watermelon skins and plastics bags were left even outside the canteen.
- Perhaps we will distribute the fruits without the plastic wrapper to reduce the possibility of fruits being consumed outside the canteen.
3. Any other observations.
- Not too sure it is the norm among students, they tended to go overboard celebrating classmate's/friend's birthday by playing with water and flour. A poor girl from 221 was badly drenched and full of flour. Maths lesson was suspended and the whole class was reprimanded by DM/OM.
Some other students suffered the same treatment by schoolmates but they were mostly conducted after school. If there is a need, we should perhaps share the proper way to celebrate one's birthday.
- A water melon skin was thrown from the top of Block 'C' to the eco-pond and a worker was victimised, hours after Mdm Shanti shared with the sch 'the values of doing the right things when no one is watching'. I will share with the Sec 1-3 during the morning assembly tomorrow (done).

-Mdm Khor managed to keep the students who dropped MT to stay in her class to do work. I wonder why some other classes are not doing it, notably class 402 and 413 students. I personally witnessed them playing a fool rather than pro-actively spending quality time doing homework.
Is it possible to re-iterate our school's stand regarding this?

- A group of boys were wondering at the side corridor of the multi purpose hall during recess. Food & drinks were consumed there and I suspect they might use this place as one of their alternative smoking hide-out besides toilet though no one was caught red-handed. They were cautioned and being asked to disperse as instructed.

ReplyDeleteOne of the Sec 2 class was released minutes before the bell went as the teacher followed her watch. I have reminded the teacher to wait for the bell.
Sec 3NT students were seen walking slowly to their class. I hurried them to their class. It seem that they are becoming restless this term.

- Most of the homerooms were not locked when there were no lessons. There are some expensive items in the homerooms such as visualisor and other teaching resources.
- Male toilet 3rd floor between Blk C and D. Many many vulgarities written on back door of male toilet.
- Students caught loitering. They were lost about whether they have hall assembly at 1pm. Can we place announcement of assembly on student broadcast every week?

Saw a few class 422 Malay boys walked away hastily after witnessing me approaching the level 2 ophir block male toilet ard 1230pm. Witnessed the toilet filled with smoke and 2 cig butts were found at one of the cubicles.
I am getting very annoyed for the fact that these recalcitrants are currently challenging the school's authority for smoking in between lessons. Not only at the toilets, the 2 side corridors of the MPH (together with Sharen, we caught Kenny last week, Alif and one of the triplets from 314 2 weeks ago), the back stage of the hall (the floorball goalposts' net were damaged as they were melted by flame) and the area between the fitness corner to the container are common places we caught students smoking.
I wonder what is the agreed course of action we are carrying out to curb this challenge together.
3. Any other observations
Half of class 111 were not engaged in English lesson conducted by the trainee teacher. Her CT, Mr. Zhang was on medical leave. I shared some classroom management tips which she might want to try in future. However she did follow up with a couple of boys at the end of the day.

1. 4E5NA students who dropped subjects not meaningfully engaged in Library. No namelist for Rama to verify their claim on dropping subjects. Eve to follow up
2. Seating arrangements still along traditional straights lines / individual seating. Does not facilitate collaborative learning with the exception of a few classes in C & D block.
Green flags:
1. Lessons are mostly quiet and students seemed to be engaged.
2. Environment was generally clean wih the exception of posters falling out along corridors of D block. Posters we peeled off their reinforcements. Many posters missing. Will propose for murals to be painted instead of putting up posters on department corridors. Possibility of collaborative partneship with the art schools for mural painting? (Melinda's suggestion)
Other observations:
1. Teaching strategies employed are frontal. Mostly teacher talk.

Some students were late to class from recess. 2 students were found in the canteen and seated among graduating students (who have dropped subject) after their recess time. These 2 students are in 221 and 211, were then instructed to go back to their respective classes.

1. Green flag s): Most homeroom doors are open with no sign of vandalism (as previously assumed). However, cleanliness can be improved for all homerooms in general.
2. Red flag:
a) Some classes are waiting outside of homerooms for more than 10min past the bell. Teachers are not punctual for classes (F3 / D3).
b) 301 students were being sent out of SS class for being disruptive.
17 Aug
1. Green flag: Visited Mei's homeroom. She has boxes of classified items for teaching of art through observation. She believes in using authentic, tangible sources to appeal to the kineasthetic learners she has. It has been successful for her to use these items for drawing. Homeroom is conducive to creativity and learning of art.
2. Red flag: General homeroom upkeep is not up to standard at all. Lots oflitter ie. plasic bottles, chewing gum (!!), used tissue paper, broken pencils and used correction tapes on floor. Due to homeroom sharing, users of others' homerooms do not have ownership and hence, is not responsible about the homeroom upkeep.
3. Others: Teaching is stil frontal for most lessons with stdents sitting in single rows and teacher lecturing most times.
SOme syllabus "B" students within CL teacher class is restless and has ear phones plugged in while teacher is teaching without any book and fidgeting during lesson.

1. Green flag: Most classes are engaged and attentive. Sec 3 classes observed in C block were on task and teachers observed were clear.
2. Red flag: Sec 4E students in library were not on task (except 2 Pure Science students who did not offer C & T - Wey Yi & Kah Hui of 402). Students who drop subjects are still reporting to the Library despite reminders during assembly about reporting to alternative venues. An A3 timetable is put up in front of staffroom glass door. A timetable will also be given to Rama to remind students to report to designated venues.

Red flag: 101 was found sitting outside Joanne's homeroom. The students said that she would be 15 mins late due to invigilation. Today Denise also had the same problem. Some invigilation issues with the timetable of some teachers. Maybe should look into this before problem escalates.
